Brake problems was created by Madmaff92
I have recently purchased a 2004 jimny, brake pedal goes down a long way before it engages brakes, brakes are good when it is pressed hard, any ideas as I'd like a normal brake pedal

Could be air in the system and just want a good bleed all round. Could also be very old fluid, unless you know when it was last changed. I would give the shoes and pads a check over as well to make sure they aren't worn down to the point of needing replacing. Any signs of any leaks?

The automatic shoe adjusters on the back can over time get gunged up with dust and mud and the like and then not cycle properly to advance the shoes into correct contact. A good clean with brake clean and the merest dab of lube will help no end. Alternatively the front wheel bearings may be dying allowing the discs to push the front calipers back too much. My bet would be the back being in need of a clean.

No leaks, bled all brakes and pulled out all old fluid leaving only new in there l, so air is out the the question
Discs and pads aren't too bad

Update, both front caliper a had seized slider pins, have now removed cleaned and oiled etc and this has helped with the pedal travel alot, however it's still a bit soft compared to my relay van and ford galaxy car, thinking now that maybe jimny brakes just aren't as sharp as my newer vehicles?
