charging light + water was created by gman
Hello,
I have a 2004 Jimny with the M13A motor 4WD.
Just recently I had the battery light being on.. i swapped out the battery (the older one was trash)..
So, i have NOT checked the alternator, will be doing that tomorrow, however, I dont think that the alternator is faulty, because when I drive in water, even just medium size puddles, the battery light goes out and it charges around 14.5 V.. I know water conducts electricity, but just wanted to ask around and see if any of you have had similar problems?
Any suggestions on where to start?
I always plug it in during the night so there is no rush.. ( It's the only Plug-in Jimny in the world  )
I have a video of me driving through a small puddle if anyone is interested, just drop your email below.

Welcome to the forum. Err it only works properly when driving in even small bodies of water, that's new. I would be looking at earth points first and then the state of the wiring and connectors to the alternator though it could also be the alternator regulator too.

When you have checked everything above and are out of ideas:-
Water on the brush gear can help them, so it's possible your alternator brushes are on the way out.
It's a strange one as Lambert said, so my comments are a long shot.
Not entirely insane as I did "run in" model aircraft brushed motors under water as it suppress arching on the slip rings.
