Good grief, no wonder GeorgeC was having issues with solar charging.

Hi, I've viewed the video on YouTube, thank you for posting. So what is the answer to the thread?
I've just removed a CTEK7 from my other vehicle and intend to use it on our Gen4. On the vehicle it has come from, (Volvo XC60), advice was to fit the connector tail eyelets with the +ve to battery +ve terminal post and the -ve to an earthing point on the vehicle's body, not the battery -ve terminal.
Given the sensor fitted to the battery -ve, just where is the best place to attach the -ve terminal of the charging connector lead? Whilst the negative post is by far the easiest place to install, is it the best point of contact given the fitting of this sensor? Is it as in the image in this thread, next to the sensor?
I should add we are not experiencing any starting problems this is a unit purely to keep things in tip top condition. On the Volvo it came from the CTEK had to be used every now and then as there would be a 'low battery' message pop up on the dash.

A lot of overthinking in this thread.
-- One typically doesn't connect a charger directly to the negative post of the battery for the same reason one doesn't connect jumper leads there: having a potential spark point next to a hydrogen-venting battery is a risk. Quite a small one, of course, but since any point on the body is electrically identical to the negative post itself, no need to take the risk at all. This was pointed out by another poster early in the thread.
-- The post in this thread about the supposed functioning of the "sensor" on the negative cable and what the ECU "remembers" about battery charge state is just pure nonsense, and several other posts pick up on that nonsense and run with it. Would have been better to let this thread continue to rest in obscurity in the archives, no need to resurrect it to embarrass the guilty.

Any solid earth point is fine. That would be a point bolted directly to the bodywork. Follow the ground strap from the battery for the nearest such point.Given the sensor fitted to the battery -ve, just where is the best place to attach the -ve terminal of the charging connector lead? Whilst the negative post is by far the easiest place to install, is it the best point of contact given the fitting of this sensor? I

The CTEK chargers sense battery voltage, so to avoid any small volt-drops when charging at 5A you want to have the D-rings directly on the battery terminals.
When a lead acid battery goes over 75% then even 0.1V difference in battery voltage can be significant in detecting the charge state and hence the operation of an intelligent pulse charger like a CTEK.
Interesting CTEK say connect the negative D-ring to either the battery terminals or an earth point, I guess if your battery terminals don’t have a suitable mounting point chassis would be fine.

Thanks for the reply, perhaps admin may want to add a feature which prevents threads from being resurrected?
I found the content of the thread quite interesting and as a new owner of a Jimny thought I may establish where owners, who use the same unit, have attached their connecting leads.
I understand some vehicles should not use a CTEK, so to see if the subject has been raised lets me know if the unit is suitable and where eyelets have been attached. I thought raising the subject was reasonable and not to start a new thread. Not everyone has a degree in auto electronics.
