newbie please explain this death wobble was created by barnsley john
started reading up on the jimny being a newbie
ours is a 2017 with only 4500 miles and bog standard
I have skipped through the forums since last week when purchased the jimny to broaden my mind
but keep picking up on some sayings the dreaded death wobble
I had a fireblade 900 j plate motorcycle years ago and this had bad tank slapper characteristics and nearly killed the rider when it started on fast roads
causes front wheel different to back size wise and no steering damper and loads of power etc
so what causes the death wobble on the jimny
is it when higher suspension has been fitted ,off road tyres etc please can some one let me know my wife is worried has it is her that drives it more
I have done 85 mph in ours on a private smooth road and felt ok also on motorways 70 feels ok
great full for any help thanks john and jaky

All things with a mass is affected by gravity, centripetal force, torsion and vibratory torque, and internal resonance frequency. When all these different forces are either badly dampened by the sum of all the play and slack in joints and couplings, or modified beyond or below it's capability to prevent them, these things can occur. That's the general idea at least.
Most times bigger tires and King pin defects but also other.

My take is that the steering system on a Jimny is unnecessarily sensitive to wear in any moving part. Be it the prime culprit of the king pin bearings or down to the panhard bushes, any component or combination of components that wears can cause an issue. Now that being said there are degrees of wobble that can be felt in the steering wheel from very mild which is often the tyres needing a balance upto clipping a pothole and almost having the steering wheel ripped out of your hand which is proper death wobble. Wherever the wobble is on the scale though it is relatively easy to fix and has been experienced by someone on here who will be able to offer advice. But in your case you can expect a good number of miles of trouble free motoring if you are using the car for running to and from the errands of life on the road. It's like everything else the harder you use it the quicker it will wear and the more you will need to maintain it.

With 4500 miles on it, I doubt there is a true problem..... (worth jacking both wheels and inspecting for play in the bearings and rod ends)
The Jimny does feel skittish when compared to most, if not all, other cars.
Fit a steering damper, they slow down the steering and give it a "solid" feel. Other than that, spend more time behind the wheel, you'll get used to it.
