Hi guys. I'm in proces of fitting a winch and have a problem with finding location for control box under the hood. Where did you guys put it? My Jim has ABS (that never worked) so no space there. Maybe near a battery?

Triming the bumper was easy and actually looks OK after puting rubber trim around it. Welding and mounting the plate was easy and looks neat. Even dissasembly of the winch itself was easy (needed to turn the clutch a bit so the handle doesn't catch on the bumper). But this thing... I literally have no ideas.

Pictures would be much appreciated :)

I made a small bracket for an isolator switch and the solenoid box to go just behind the headlight, beside the airbox. Came off existing bolts to mount it, so fairly neat. Mainly done this way due to the lengths of supplied wiring. Dont have any pics at the moment tho, sorry!

If its on the other side you could always move the washer bottle about as well. Mines on the bulkhead now and works fine.

I took another look and this seems to be logical place for it. I see the fuse box bracket is bolted beneath the battery so I'll make another bracket for control box and mount it I guess....

I'd put it as close to the winch as possible.
What winch have you got?

Not sure how much space you have and if it possible. But using longer bolts from Gigglepin it could be possible to mount the winch on the end of the motor and the use copper bars from solenoid terminals directly to winch motor terminals.

Sorry Tom, you lost me.

It's a EWX9500 winch (short drum) and there's really no space to fit the control box on the winch itself or the motor. Maybe If I cut a nice big piece of the bumper but I'd rather not.

Why is is so important for the box to be as close as possible? I was under the impression that only thing that mattered was to use good cables to install it. 35mm2 sems to be the norm, I could use 50mm2 but I think that is overkill.

35 mm2 cables is the absolute minimum to use. I'd definitely use 50 mm2 unles there's a really short distance between winch and battery.

When it comes to winches. It's best to always use as good and short connections and leads as possible. And a solid copper bar is always better than cable.

But I understand that it may be difficult to mount the solenoid on the end of the motor on a low mount winch. due to space.
