Jimny '99 1.6v engine 4 speed transmission 03-72LE upgrade was created by shawker
Hi all,
Newbie here managed to swap over my engine to a beleno 1.6v into a auto 99' but I think that i may have messed something up with the transition haven't had time to have a look but the change from 1 to 2 is really slow almost racing before it kicks in and it races from 2 to 3 also?
So was wondering just in case I have roasted it if there is anyone that has upgraded to the 4 speed transmission 03-72LE from say a vitara (I'm in oz so that's what they are called).
What would I need to acquire?
Thanks in advance.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Have you "lost" the throttle position signal from the engine ecu to the transmission ecu, and it is operating as if the throttle were fully open?
If so it should hold 1st to about 36km/hr 2nd to 85 and 3rd to 127km/hr
Did you just fit all the sensors from the 1300 engine to the 1600 and do a straight swap, or was any wiring involved?
The gearbox is festooned with sensors for turbine speed, output speed, gear selector position, oil temp, if any of these are disconnected or you trapped the wire breaking it or shorting it anything could happen.

Thanks for this!
It's been a mad dash to Christmas at work so haven't had a chance to get back under /in to have a look.
By the sound of the last noise I heard before I parked it up it sounds like I broke something so thinking that I may have not got the torque converter all the way in correctly so I may start there!!! Opps newbie mistake or just rushing maybe!!!!
hence the question re the Aw4 upgrade!
Now to work out what is easier pull out the engine or pull out the transmission ???? "sigh" That'll teach me.

If the torque converter isn't fitted correctly to the gearbox splines first, then the engine fitted, then the torque converter bolted to the flexplate/flywheel, it usually damages the oil pump, then there is no drive at all.
There is supposed to be 18.0mm between the face of the bellhousing and the face of the torque converter mounting lugs, this means the flexplate face must stick out proud of the backplate less than 18.0mm.
There isn't usually an input shaft bearing in the end of the crank on an auto, there are usually different packing plates on the end of the crank too.
I'd support the gearbox and take the engine out so the torque converter can't drop off.
I doubt if the vitara transmission will fit easily, vitaras have the transfer box integral with the gearbox.
