235 75 15 tire standard gearing experiences?! was created by fransolis94
hi! i have really investigate about getting 235 75 15 mud tires on a jimny, i have read a lot of forums in many countrys, i have read some people said its better to get a reduction kit, others said the gearing its good enough, in my country i cannot get a reduction kit because its really really expensive to ship to costa rica, so i will like to hear experiences with the jimny with 235 75 15 MT tires and standard gearing, thanks! i really apreciate the help!

Since there are a lack of replies, I run 215 Simex copies, about 29" diameter (which would be similar?), these do overgear the car, not to an unusable level, but it prefers 4th and 5th gear is more overdrive that is unusable on hills etc. Also whilst greenlaning at the weekend I strugged getting up a tarmac hill, 1st was too low, I was at 5000rpm, moved into 2nd and it just died, so back in to first and over revving again....
So I order a rocklobster, but if this wasn't available, are there bigger 1.6 engines available locally? This would help, reduce the weight as much as possible, mine has a roll cage which adds a lot of weight.
So if your heart is set of getting the bigger tyres, they will fit, but there are a lot of comprises driving it. Surely you can find an SJ410 box locally and fit that to reduce the gearing, without going all the way to a rocklobster?

I've been running 235 -75 -15 for a couple of years.....only difference I noticed was the low range 4wd isn't quite low enough....meaning I drive over things faster than I'd like to ideally.
On road it actually made motorway speeds 70-80 mph sweeter but the hills I went up in 5th were now for 4th.....then I fitted a turbo and singlehandedly raised world temps 2 degrees and don't notice the hills....I'm sure they're still around!
With the 2" lift and my homemade arches I have zero interference issues.......without trimming and just a 2" lift it could contact a few places.
Certainly more comfortable off the beaten track.....Just do it.....unless you're into rock crawling?
