Rear engine mount issue was created by Damo666
Hi guys....haven't been on here a lot...as quite frankly my partners Jimny has been behaving and haven't needed any advice.......until now! Sorry.

ANYWAY....driving home from work last night my partner says she heard a loud metal noise...she describes a "kerdunk" as though she drove over something....bit further down the road engine management light comes on. Sounded lumpy on tick over when she got home too.

Panic stations now as I'm thinking big end/head gasket etc etc as it sounded like a misfire!

Nothing to read code so I took battery off and put back on and light went out....came on again after short drive and has since gone out again.

Engine sounds fine when revved but still lumpy looking tick over and engine has a real wobble in engine bay when revved....as does the gear stick in cabin....like I've never seen before!!

I got under car and was able to lift gear box with my hand from mount so it's safe to say this is knackered!

Is it plausible that the engine jumping about could have pulled a sensor lead and caused engine management light?? Because it's off again now! I noticed a wire going to the sensor by the cat was pretty taught....could that have caused it and now it's OK again but seems lumpy because engine loose?

Sorry for long post but didn't know how else to put it??

Your help is appreciated!

I would say yes it is possible. First job is to replace the mount. They sell them in the shop or can be had on line. The one I got on line comes without anchor nuts but two nyloc nuts does the job. Job is fiddly but straightforward. Need a jack to lift the box though.

Mine delaminated -

Old one on the left, new one from the BigJimny shop on the right ;)

I jacked the gearbox up to get to it and used a batten of wood to recentralise it to get the bolts in -

New one in -

Mine went the same, and the holes were miles out, so I slackened the front engine mounts and moved the engine until I could lift the gearbox slightly and drop it, and the holes lined up.

I was thinking the misalignment was straining the mount and made it break.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Thanks for the response guys. Managed to get a mount from Suzuki next day so I've now got it ready to fit tomorrow. Will let you know how I get on. I might try and do a how to video as there's nothing on it that I could find! I did one for the reverse light sensor before as no one had done one......
