take off the rear bumper so you can get access to put a spanner (10mm I think) under the ball and remove the whole ball/cup assembly.
if you actually want to remove the cup from the ball, you'll need to hack-saw carefully through the cup until you get enough flex in it to pop it off the ball.
if you're looking to replace the strut, I recommend getting a second had OEM one for about £25 .. (place a wanted request in sales and want on here). Don't get one of the generic replacement struts as the strut is too powerful and will fling the door open making it rock on its hinges, potentially damaging them.
