Autohub Magnet and Service... was created by Statey
I've just taken my Autohubs off as need to do the CV and bearings and the hub itself was in a poor state

I've cleaned it up and it moves freely but according to the manual there's a magnet that holds it in the released position should it hold it when off the car or is it only when the airlines are attached?

Don't know if it's knackered as it won't stay pushed in held by the magne?? Anyone played with there's before?

Also how much grease do people recommend to pack it with?

Looks like that needed doing! They should rotate freely when off the car. Assuming you have completely degreased it, I'd make sure it's well greased and that there's no friction when rotating. Don't pack the whole hub with grease though

The star shaped lump with the internal splines pushes inwards, locks and then the lump will rotate (actually it stays still with the driveshaft whilst the black outer hub rotates)

If you pull & twist it, it springs outwards until the teeth on the outside lock into the big flat washer and the hub drives.

By the state of yours the teeny weenie air passages in the hub will be blocked, check you can blow through the two spigots whilst you have the hub off.

No doubt one of the many people who took theirs off to fit manual hubs will have a working pair that they don't need.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

This is why I was confused!

My magnet seems to be dead and not locking at all. Thankfully I got another set for the cost of postage :)

This is what happened...

Yes they need replaced.

I cannot understand what happened to the magnet?

I'm going to guess the calipers have been siezed and boiled the grease in there and probably in the hub bearing and you may well have clogged vacuum passages in the knuckle hub due to this.
