After completing the following changes to try and get rid of the dreaded death wobble, I'm still having some issues:

Track rod ends replaced
King Pins replaced
King Pin bearings replaced

The vibration seems to come directly through the gearstick, and doesn't occur all of the time (it did originally but the kingpins seemed to fix it). For instance, I can be driving along at 45 and be shaken all over, but somewhere else I can be doing the same speed and the ride is smooth.

A friend suggested that the rear engine / gearbox mounts seemed a bit soft, but I can't figure out what I need to buy to replace these. Does anyone know?

Thank you

I suspect that is what he was on about. There are 3 of them aren't they?

There is one gearbox/rear engine mount that often de-laminates. Typically this causes an occasional grinding noise under hard acceleration in the lower gears. When mine failed I didn't notice any un-usual wobble. The gearstick shaking is quite normal for a vehicle built like the Jimny where it is mounted directly to the gearbox. To check the gearbox mount, lay under the car and see if you can lift the end of the gearbox. It will be quite apparent if the mount has separated.

Death wobble refers to a severe steering wobble, for which the engine and gearbox would not be the cause.

If you still have steering wheel wobble (death wobble) then persevere with the solutions offered in Kirkynut's sticky thread on the subject.
