Engine swap help - 1.6 petrol or 1.7td was created by Muddyzook94
I am stuck between what engine conversion to do to my Jimny. I've always wanted to the Isuzu 1.7td lump in it but I know the 1.6 swap is a much simpler task than the diesel, so I am jus posting on here to help me make a desion on what Engine, like the pros and cons of having either the Isuzu lump or the 1.6 liana or baleno Engine. I know you need to get the conversion plate for the diesel aswell. Any help would be appriciated

You can pick up a Liana engine for £300 and fit it in a weekend with £25 of parts. Everything works as it should but you get 25% more power. Cheap, simple and effective!
I've never driven a Jimny with a 1.7td but I've driven cars with it and it's an ok engine. As standard it has the same power as a standard Jimny engine (80hp) but obviously delivers it at lower rpm, so it will make the Jimny easier to drive quickly but not quicker outright. You can gain power by adjusting the fuel pump and boost quite easily. The standard Jimny gearing is very short for a slow revving diesel engine but this works in your favour if you have bigger tyres. You'll probably pay less for the engine itself. The adapter kits is expensive and fitting is a lot more complicated. Many parts are non-standard and some will need to be fabricated.
I went for the Liana engine. The Isuzu is a lot more effort for a bit more torque. If you want low speed grunt fit a rocklobster. For the same effort as the Isuzu swap involves I'd be looking at fitting something a lot more pokey like an MX5 engine and gearbox.

Agree with Busta.
Also, the diesel engine is much heavier.
