I finally managed to do some work on my 2002 M13AA Jimny. I just changed oil in both diffs and in the transfer case. I was planning to do a transmission (Manual trans.) oil change as well, but I see conflicting information over the internet as to what the capacity of oil it needs varying from 0.7 Liters to an whooping 6-7 Liters. Maybe I would have trusted the info I found online on this, but I found out that even the things I did today weren't exactly as I've expected from the internet research I did yesterday. Examples:

Rear Diff:
Expected 1.5 liters, was around 1.7 liters.

Front Diff:
Expected 1.35 liters, this was really 1.35 liters. (I only had 1.30 L left but it was ok, just couple of mm under the fill hole.)

Transfer Case:
Expected 1.35 L, was around 0.95 liters.

I did the draining/filling on a hard level surface, even checked that by my new digital inclinometer I've just installed on the car, was within 0.5 degrees to perfectly level. (0.5 degrees can be considered perfectly level, since that is the max. error level I've calibrated it to.)

Can someone that has changed his oil in a manual transmission jimny come in and confirm the real quantity of oil needed for the oil change? I would normally just buy extra, but it's the most expensive oil I've ever bought, and an error that can be up to 5L makes me not even think about going to buy it before I know for sure how many liters I need. Btw, I already have one left from the transfer case, since I expected I would need another 350 ml, so I bought 2 x 1L cans, ended up opening just 1 can.

Another thing I'd be thankful for is if someone could help me get the workshop manual for my car (99500-81A10-01E). I'm usually good at googling things, but I had no luck finding it anywhere.

BTW, If anyone wonders how hard it is to change the oil in the diffs and transfer case, I must say it's pretty easy, since it's the first time I been under a car and I managed to do it. Things you absolutely need to do it right: torque wrench and oil transfer pump. Oh, and thread sealant!

I did it today. Actual capacity of the gearbox was 1.3 to 1.35 liters. The drain plug had no thread sealant and it was leaking oil. I've drained less than 1 liter of used oil from the gearbox. Shifting is smoother now. Can't wait to drive it for a while and see if this also fixed the random odd occasions when it won't go into first from neutral unless i depress then press the clutch again.

My local mechanic told me of a trivial generic issue which can significantly affect oil capacity - when you drain a system (engine, gearbox, axle, etc.), and the fluid stops dripping, sometimes the system might not be empty yet (don't know the reason).
Anyway, the trick is simple patience - if you can afford it. Wait cca 30 minutes more and it will drain the rest.

I experienced it first hand - we drained the front axle in the morning, until it stopped dripping and then plugged it . In the afternoon, just before filling up the new oil, we opened the drain plug again just to be sure - and approx 300 ml of more old oil came out! The car was stationery all the time (on a lift due to kingpin+cv overhaul).
