Firstly Hi from a newby on here, myself and wife took the plunge and bought her a jimny. Excellent 05 plate VVT one.

But here is the reason for the post, the last time it was driven a few days ago everything was normal. Over this weekend I got underneath and cleaned off any surface rust and have waxoyled inside the chassis and underneath.

So off I go to burn off the waxoyl that had got onto the exhaust and heard a real bad scraping sound (similar to what you would expect if a tyre was rubbing on something) then at about 10 mph a bad vibration started seemingly coming from the front off side of the jimny.
So I put it on the jack and checked the wheel bearing, 12 / 6 push and pull and 9/3 push and pull, all nice and tight no play. So spun the wheel rotated nice and freely with no grinding noises. Did the same for the other wheels just to make sure.

Then took off rear propshaft and drove in 4 wheel drive noise and vibration still there exactly the same, as soon as possible will do the same with the front propshaft to see if the noise goes.

So can anyone help with what this could possibly be, I have noticed an excessive amount of grease on the back of the swivels and wondered if even though the bearings and king pins seem to be ok could they actually of collapsed and produce the vibration and scraping noise. If not the front diff.

Suggestions of what to look for would be of great help. Even though I'm used to chasing faults on my Discovery the Jimny is totally new territory for me.

Any grease is a sign of wear and they should be dry. The seal is only there for dust and dirt and doesn't hold oil in.
This is a link to kingpins but most of it also applies to seals/bearings.

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

I have ordered new kingpin and wheel bearings for both sides as both have rather more grease than I care to mention appearing from all over. Fingers crossed that will sort things out.
I will keep this post up to date until the problem is solved, could help others new to the Jinmy too.

Right looks like we have been looking in the wrong direction for the noises, even though the kingpin bearings and seals are faulty.

I have found that the rear drivers side transfer box chassis outrigger has been used as a jacking point and bent the mount up severely both lifting the transfer box up by about 30 mm and across pulling it to the drivers side by about 300mm. So bearings look to be damaged on the transfer box at the very least.

Does anyone make new chassis outriggers for the transfer box mount as you can see this is badly bent

Plus its so very near the fuel pipes. Even when this problem is sorted it looks like the transfer box will need to be sorted too and new rubber mount for the transfer box as well.
Any help advice and recommendations on sorting this would be appreciated.

Well eventually managed to remove the rubber mounts and home made slide hammer to the rescue, now looks a bit better and everything lines up, now got to wait for new mounts.

bolt in place just to hold the box lined up
Then we will carry on with the noise and scrapping search. Deep joy.
