Mostly from years of repairing and reverse engineering Suzuki ECUs, I have worked on ECUs from all around the world. I also have a third party agreement with Suzuki that gives me access to all the FSMs and a lot of extra data for the Euro models.
I have all the Suzuki tools as well, the Tech1, Tech2 and SDT.
Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

I find it quite bewildering

Well that certainly explains that then :woohoo:
I'm a qualified engineer, but I'm not sure I have that depth of knowledge about anything

Me too - I used to design ECUs for a large OEM supplier. I haven't ever done one for Suzuki but I worked with the guys that did the ECU for the Jimny diesels.
Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

Much closer to the heart of a Jimny than I'll ever be, then

And +1 for that. I appreciate your help. I was also an engineer working vehicle design, albeit military vehicles. As a mechanical engineer I always preferred designing the box that all of the electronics would call home. We had to interface with the group that handled the CANBus but when I would start digging too deeply into it, my nose would start to bleed.
Looking through the auto trans section of the FSM much more thoroughly, it appears that on the non-VVT vehicles, only the Suzuki scan tool will read the TCM codes. My reader is already on the way, so I will test it but I will likely end up connecting a temp sensor and gauge the old fashioned way.
Thanks for the help

We help where we can, I'm sure that I have had a lot more help from the forum than I've been able to give.
I've worked on a few military vehicles, the last one was some electronics for the Terrier, there was CANBus galore on that!
