Steering box woes... was created by JimnyGirl85
So. My beautiful little Jimmy has (finally) passed its mot after issues with having a little bit of play in the steering.
Last year I put a second hand replacement uj on it as the original was broken (Suzuki way too expensive). This has been fine, allowed tracking etc no problem.
The steering became loose so my mechanic tightened the bolt in the steering box which has worked a treat it's just a smidge heavy when parking etc.
I have discussed the steering issue with said mechanic and we are wondering which is the best option to avoid being financially violated by Suzuki and getting a new one.

Do I/can I buy a reconditioned one?
Do I get mine reconditioned?

Open to ideas...

Also, off topic. After some fog lights for front bumper, best place? Kits? They aren't fitted on my car as standard.

Suzuki do/used to sell a kit but were/are expensive! Enter a plea in the FOR SALE forum for the lights, switch and relay. I have a copy of the fitting instructions if you need it.
As regards the steering box, they are designed to have the adjustment to take up wear, perhaps he tightened it a smudging too much!

It was too tight at one point, was mega heavy where it's at now seems to be the compromise of having littlest play possible and still be able to drive it.
It hasn't been tightened up sinc originally done I'm just wondering it, with swapping ujs around to try and appease the tester somethings tightened it up, I'm not worried he's a great mechanic and will tweak it if it's too much.

Off to enter plea... Thank you :)

When you say you replaced a UJ what exactly did you replace? Was it a drive shaft or one of the prop shaft joints or something else?
Either way I cannot see any of those affecting the steering directly.
Having reread the original entry was it the steering rod uj from the steering wheel to the box that you changed? If so then you found the steering ok at first but after a while you found the steering loose so you had the box adjusted.
