Hi

I need to change (again) the O-rings in both rear and front air-locked diffs (Chinese ARB copies) of my Jimny. What are the sizes of these O-rings and what material or other spec would you recommend?

These O-rings seem to wear out soon, especially the rear ones, as expected. Pain in the ass but definitely a great asset for any 4WD...

My thanks in advance

Hi,

I don't have any experience with rear diff seals, but this chart might help you decide the type of material based on temperature and chemical resistance:

o rings

The only gear oil I found in that chart is Texaco 3450 gear oil.

If it was me and I'm not saying I know much about the subject, I would probably go for nitrile. I think there's high and low temp varients.

I would definitely get a few more experienced opinions tho.

Just out of interest, where might I purchase one of these chinese ARBs? :)

2" Trailmaster suspension lift, 2"body lift, snorkel, full breather kit, 29" steel wheels with BFG tyres, tinted rear windows, CRT CB radio with modulator antenna mounted on rear, dog cage and tray in the back.

Thanks for the quick reply. My diff lockers were imported by the mechanic who installed them and I believe he ordered them from an exporter in Hong Kong. They cost me about 600 euro each including the installation. For you it may be cheeper to buy from a dealer in your country (I live in Cyprus, no dealers for such things!).

You're welcome.

I think after looking at this chart, nitrile o rings have good oil resistance, tensile strength, dynamic and temperature properties.

I have sent an email to a Chinese supplier. Hopefully they will respond. :)

Can't be a design flaw Ben? ... Must be a copying or manufacturing flaw!
