Advice on best location for a light bar was created by NineCherries
Ok, I fancy a light bar on my Jimny but I'm weighing up the pros and cons regarding fitting location.
I'm considering roof mount (ideally on the leading edge of a roof rack) or in the bumper recess. What one is better?
I presume the roof position will give you a better spread of light as it will have a better angle in relation to the road surface, yeah?
Opinions please :) Tia

If it's right on edge of roof over windscreen you won't be able to see as it will make your windscreen turn white with light so mount it back about 6-8" then it's bang on with no probs.

If the lights are below your eye level, you can see the shadows projected by rough ground and dips in the road, helping you read the road ahead. It's much harder to judge the terrain with lights above your eye level because you can't see the shadows they cast. This is why car headlights are where they are, not on the roof! For night stages, rally cars use bonnet pods rather than roof bars for this reason.

Try shining a torch across some uneven ground while holding it above your head, then down by your waist and you will see the difference.
