g13bb common fault was created by mark 88
hi all do jimny engines have a problem with there wrist pin going on the cylinder closest to the cam pulley. my jimny has had a second engine in now and has the same knock as the first. the first engine knock suddenly became so loud it was like a windy pick was under the bonnet and when i took the sump off i found chunks of piston skirt in it.
if i put a screwdriver to the base of the cam cover and to my ear i can pinpoint where its coming from and im praying that its a tappet but ive tried them several times.

any ideas would be great thanks

Normal engineering term is "small end" as opposed to the cranks "big end". I would think you have just been unlucky in the replacement engine being as worn as your original. Would think its down to poor servicing through its life in not enough oil and filter changes and correct grade of oil used and possibly oil pump wear due same. The oil galleries internally probably mean that the No 1 piston is the last in the line and so the pressure when it gets there is too low to do the job properly. You could try a flush and new good oil and filter but I would not hold too much faith in fixing it. There are additives on the market that claim that they can do wonders but again tongue in cheek for to suggest they work.

My thoughts exactly.

I don't think it's common for G13's to blow head gaskets but it is well documented online (Lets not forget there are a lot of G13's out there, thus a lot that haven't blown!)

I wonder if potentially some gasket material or other crap/crud is finding its way in to your oil galleries (sadly on both the engines youve had which could only ever end badly. Its likely to end up at the end of the line (or crank in this case) or get stuck in a place that has a low pressure flow and can't clear it.

You could make a good engine by using the spare engine for parts!
