manual hub problem was created by ray walker
Hello Guys, My Jim works perfectly with vacuum hubs, But because of all the commments about reliability and the fact she is a 1999 vintage, i have acquired a pair of Vitara manual hubs with `made in USA` stamped on them. They are aluminium, painted black . Ive got the spacers and bolts for fitment, BUT, when in `freewheel ` mode, one spins freely, no noise, the other spins with a `ratchet noise`. I cant find a strip down guide. I`m pretty certain the hub is not U/S, but have no idea how to strip and investigate. I hope someone can help. As before, great site for Jim owners.

Those are Warn manufactured OEM hubs, there was a strip down on Shropshire Suzuki I think. You have to prise apart the plastic locking rings, they aren't very complex inside but there is a plastic cam that engages the hub and that is prone to breaking.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

I'm fairly sure I had Warn hubs on the LandRover.

They have one countersunk screw into the side of the big turny end cap.

What you had to do was undo the screw, and underneath what you think is a nylon washer is actually the pull ring on a 6" long nylon band that holds the cap on, it carefully draws out, and then the cap lifts off to reveal the works.

Seemed stupid to me, if that nylon ring breaks........

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Those sound like the Warn 'Premium' hubs that are sold as aftermarket parts, they are quite different.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.
