Help - engine change was created by Muddyzook94
I have a 1998 vitara jlx se 1.6 16v engine and I don't know if this engine will go into my jimny without changing a lot of things. I was told by a machanic that the vitara was injected but my 2000 g13bb engine wasn't so it won't go in without a lot of work. Jus wanting to make sure if it can go in or not before I get rid of it. Any help would be appreciated
cheers

First of all sack your "mechanic" as the 2000 G13Bbb Jimny is Fuel injected!
However both being fuel injected means you have to play around with injectors etc. to get the ECU to fuel the engine correctly.
Apart from that, depending on the quality of the installation you required, you will need an adaptor kit to mount the engine to the mounts and gearbox (the cheap and cheerful way is to drill everything out and bolt through but its a real kludge)

what you're looking for is 'Jimny G16B engine conversion' on here,
www.auszookers.com
or on google & you'll find a lot of info.
i've completed the conversion myself & have been really happy with the results.
as said earlier the main components you'll need are:
- engine, G16B sourced either from a Vitara (as you have) or from a Suzuki Baleno
- injectors, you require the all plastic green variety used in the Baleno
- adaptor kit, i know on eBay you can purchase a kit from New Zealand from a seller called BenT (who i purchased my kit from). it includes the modified engine mount, bell housing to gearbox plate along with various studs & bolts required
- starter motor, the original starter motor in your car is too fat to fit. people have had success grinding the block & the starter to force it to fit, but i honestly wouldn't recommend it
using the Vitara motor as you have is apparently far simpler than using a Baleno engine, but the Baleno engine would've already had the correct injectors. the difference for the 2 engines is in the shape of the sump & the oil pickup, not having to modify the oil pickup will be the best part of the Vitara engine as that was a real pain.
other thing you'll need is some specialised tools, things like stud extractors & pullers along with other bits & bobs i can't remember having to loan from friends.
here's a link about my car, includes a heap of links & info i gathered before starting (a lot of the links back to here) that you should probably read before deciding to proceed or not;

98 vitara engine will not be on coil packs I don't think
You can I believe swap the cam into the vit lump and swap rocker cover so that it can run coils and the cam sensor. You will need either baleno green or later vitara injectors to suit the jimny fuel rail or make spacers as required to use the ones that came with your vit engine
