Just trying to get my head around the different codes for the 5w30 Castrol Magnatec available.
Does anyone have any real world information on what the various A1 / C2 / C3 designations actually translate to?
Everything I've found just has the slopey shoulder default statement of "check your vehicle handbook".
Having done that, I'm none the wiser.

Or am I splitting hairs, is the difference not worth being worried about?

They relate to the additives etc they put in the oil to meet manufacturers specs
I.e magnatec 5w30c3 is:-
ACEA C3
API SN/CF
Dexos2®*
MB-Approval 229.31
VW 502 00/ 505 00

5w30c2 is:-
ACEA C2
PSA Approval B71 2290
Meets Fiat 9.55535-S1

Managed to find this:

It at least recommends a certain oil for a certain car.
