You may be lucky, but as I said, the one thing Suzuki can do well is seal joint faces, there is no sump gasket just RTV sealer. Don't overtighten the screws, they are only 10Nm, which is a tweak with a 1/4 socket wrench. If you overtighten, they just distort the face of the sump, and it does leak then.

Check the oil isn't coming from higher up on the engine and running down, the O ring seal at the back of the single cam is favourite, otherwise the cam cover if it has been disturbed (there is a gasket here).

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Hi, I was just wondering how you were getting along with this as I too have recently discovered that my sump is porous and has developed a pretty decent leak in the last couple of weeks. Its a 52 plate. Would a new sump be easy to get hold of from Suzuki for this year? I presume its a pretty easy fix as long as i can get hold of a sump..

Suzuki will sell you one, but the price will make you cry.

They are very difficult to get second hand, as they are all rusty, and breakers won't take the sump off a good engine if they think they can sell the whole engine.

If you have time, take it off, and clean it up, you can braze a patch over any pinholes on the inside, then finish the outside with leak-fix.

However, even a minute leak left and oil will weep out.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
