I've got a Loose feeling gear stick was created by NineCherries
There seems to be more play in my gear stick than I'd like but only on the left/right plane, forward/back is fine. Is it the nylon bush thingy at the bottom of the gear stick I've read about or is it more likely to be a bush on the selector rods somewhere? I have still to get under and have a proper nosey but it's chucking it down outside at the moment.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Could be, or it could be one of the bolts holding the remote linkage together come undone.
At the stick end, there is a ring (with that nylon bush inside) that is held onto the remote shaft by a clamp bolt screwed upwards, I think a plate comes off below the gearlever to tighten it.
The other end of the remote shaft has like a universal joint with two cross bolts, these have top-hat bushes inside.

have you tried looking under the gator, it just pulls off without damaging anything, and underneath there's another gator - which if it's come off will make it "feel much slacker" than normal
After my bodylift my stick was very stiff so I had to put "knicks" into the lower gator allowing it to move more freely
just a thought, maybe not a good one, but worth a look
