help with a noise, maybe mounts was created by Decklandpt
hi again.
i had the jimny go to the doctor a few weeks back, there was a thump when setting off, or when shifting at low rpms. there was also some reverberation and a grinding noise.
as for the grinding noise, it was a heat shield, that was sorted out.
as for the thump turns out a u-joint and slightly bent prop where to blame. that is more or less sorted out.
the thing is, it still reverberates, and the phump is still there, but less pronunced. if i'm gentle with the clutch it doesn't make itself noticed.
thing is, it's still there, and there's this griding/crunching sound, like sand between 2 pieces of metal flexing...
it's there at low speeds, just cruising, even in the flat. sometimes the sound seems cyclic, like it's from something that spins, but does not increase with speed. other times it seems like the road imperfections make it manifest itself.
the other day it occured to me to see if it was a problem with the hubs not disengaging properly. so i put it into 4x4, and took a drive. the noise was gone for a day or so. but then it came back. so i put into 4x4 again and it was gone, but as soon as set it back to 4x2 it came back.
the sound goes away when in 4x4 and i dont notice any other symptoms other than that reverberation when in gear as 2000 to 2400rpm and the crunching/grinding noise.
so my thinking now is that it could be the rear engine mount/gearbox or the transfer case mounts.
any ideas?
