New CAT was created by fozzie
Well you can tell I'm a 'Noobie', question after question
Today I made enquiries about a new Down pipe with CAT. The current system has been welded due to a crack that formed in the pipe just before the CAT. I'm told that this is common.
This is not the reason for the replacement, it's got to be fixed due to the rotten hanger (not worth repairing) which is being held on with a stainless Jubilee clip. The heat shield is also falling off and being held on by a stainless band (thank's to our engineering stores here at work... and before anyone thinks I stole the bits... I own the company).
Tonights question is... Has anyone done or does anyone recommend welding a patch/plate over the weak area on the new pipe before it's installed? Or is this fault not as common as I've been led to believe?
Thanks
Paul

Now I know you can buy cheap Cats now days and to a certain extent you get what you pay for, but...
Suzuki want £489.30 plus Vat plus fitting
My local indie told me that the cheaper Cats from Eurocarparts are not what I should be looking at if I want to keep the car more than two years. Even his price of £278 plus the dreaded is more than I expected... Damn!!
I think that the Cat pipe is in for some serious repair, as I said it's really only a rotten exhaust hanger. Where's my welding gear hiding?

Fingers crossed that it won't be too bad as the exhaust was removed by CMW Suzuki to repair the gearbox last February.
Or at least I hope they removed it
