Good road tyres was created by fozzie
Hi All,

Given the breadth of experience and knowledge on this site, can anyone help me with a better tyre choice.

My Jimny is fitted with Falken Landair T110 tyres. These don't appear to suit my car very well. I've noticed that they have next to no grip if the roads are wet (or damp) and the ABS cuts in very easily. I don't go 'off road' at all really, the extent of my off roading is going on grass at the local fete. If I'm in a bit of a hurry, the car is quite skittish and it would be easy to lose. In my personal experience the Falken T110 are bordering on 'ditch finders' so I'd like to fit the best I can afford.

I've trolled through mountains of data with regard to tyres that would grip better in the wet and have found that the Michelin Latitude Cross is supposed to give much better wet grip (and dry grip for that matter) than the Falkens.

Falken data: Fuel: E. Wet grip: F. Noise: 73dB.

Michelin data: Fuel: C. Wet grip: C. Noise: 71dB.

Has anyone used the Michelins?
Is there anything better or as good as, that you could recommend?

I only drive about 2K - 3K a year, so a budget tyre with great grip that wears out in 10K would be preferable to the Michelin that would last maybe 20K as they would age harden before they wore out.

Many thanks in advance.

Paul

Have been recommended the following:

Uniroyal RainExpert 3 SUV 205/70 R15 H Fuel: E. Wet: A. Noise: 71dB. For SUV and 4x4's.

Anyone used these?

Hi, can't help with the michelins, but bear in mind that the jimny is a short, high vehicle and if you drive it like a hot hatch on wet roads you will lose it, as i know to my cost !! I am now wary of wet roundabouts and sharp bends and adjust my driving style accordingly when it's wet :)

Yep! I understand what you are saying, but I'm honestly not abusing the tyres or car. These tyres are almost like driving on ice when it's wet (a bit of an exaggeration I know).

I just hoped that the members here, with their experience (over me being a relative Noob) would be the right place to ask :)

On my last jimny i fitted some goodyear wramgler atr in 205/75/15 and it transformed the car both on and off road. The latest one has the standard bridgestone ditchfinders on , so as soon as funds allow will be changing them, so watching this thread with interest. Am currently leaning towards a set of geolanders or toyo open countyr atr
cheers. Ian

OOP's !!

I might be slating the Falken Landair T110 Tyres unnecessarily as I've just checked the dates on all four tyres. They are all the same and dated the 6th week of 2010 (0610).

So even though they still have 4 to 5mm of tread left, the goodness (grip) will have been sucked out of these tyres in the last 5 years.

The jimny being very light needs every bit of road grip it can get, especially in the wet ;)
