Fixed the beep and the heater

I took the gauges out and on the back was a black plug. I took this out to see what would happen and the beeping disappeared - can't see any other effects as yet but easy enough to replace should it cause problems later on.
I then thought I'd try the heater out, which I hadn't used since buying the Jimny last month. Took a while to figure out why there was no hot air coming out but eventually found the wire had come off the control and that's now reinstalled. It was then that the blower just stopped suddenly. I checked and replaced the fuse to no avail but then nudged a bundle of wires under the steering column - the blower came back on again. Further inspection found that someone has fitted an immobiliser at some stage (which I think is now bypassed) using those awful Scotchlok connectors and it has been arcing and got so hot that the plug is melted, so replacing the wiring is not going to be easy. It's been cut so close to the plug that I had little option but to tape up the connector and hope for the best.

I'm a Domestic / Commercial / Industrial spark and I go to more problems through forums than anything else. No disrespect to anyone on here as there are some very knowledgeable people but if the advice is interpreted wrong and the actions are carried out incorrectly then you could cause yourself or others a serious accident. Please don't think I am being patronising, just a good bit of advice
Strange how car electrics frighten a lot of people including mechanic mechanics.
I've always found good electrics advice on forms though.
