Connecting electrics on a new Jimny towbar was created by Bosanek
Hello!
I recently installed an aftermarket towbar on my Jimny (made by Westfalia). It is tailor-made for Jimny, and fits perfectly.
The only thing which is left to be done is to connect the towbar electrics.
I went to the my local Suzuki dealer, and they have no idea how it should be done properly. For example, they do not know if ECU (on board computer) needs to be reprogrammed or not. As they do not have an electrician (!), that lack of confidence is not surprising.
Therefore, does anyone know how should this job be done properly?
- Does the ECU need to be reprogrammed?
- Where and how should the tow bar wires be connected? Should they go all under the car to the front, and connect them at the main electrical box, or should they just be hooked onto the wires at the existing rear car lights and blinkers?
I would let a qualified car electrician to do this, but I need to know how it should be done properly to avoid getting fooled.
P.S.: My Jimny is made in 2006, with a factory Renault diesel engine (63 kW, the new type). If that has any significance for this story ...

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

A quality wiring harness should just plug into the standard loom, on a Suzuki the connectors for the towbar electrics are usually behind one of the tail lights. The ECU does not need to be reprogrammed. Did you not get any instructions with the towbar?

recall that under the left rear vertical light behind the bumper there's an entry hole (has a rubber flap) to the rear left hand side space and you can connect the wriing where the rear speaker cabling is.

Thank you very much for your effort.
The towbar was stripped from another crashed Jimny, so I obviously did not get any manual for it
When I received it on the car junk yard, the cable was just hanging from the towbar without any connector on the "car" side, as someone had cut it while dismantling the towbar from the previous car. The towbar does have the connector for plugging the trailer though.
So, are you saying that each Jimny should feature a connector behind one of the rear vertical lights, which is meant for connecting the towbar cable? So, the connector sits there idle all the time, waiting for a future towbar to be fitted?
If that is true, all I need then is an adequate connector to put it back on the towbar cable, and then connect that on the factory prepared cable behind a rear light? And that's it?

no, you'll need to connect the bare wires from the socket,
there's no simple plug-in connector,
I used these snap connectors
and fitted the socket here, think it's a neater solution
