No need for a special tool don't be afraid to pop the glass off as it's well supported by the backing plate and literally only takes a minute or two.
That gives you easy access to the fixings just squeeze the prongs together with a large screwdriver as a lever or possibly long nose pliers??

Thanks mate.
I will have a go at that. I'm going to try some chrome vinyl wrap on the covers. This is the wife pavement princess and she loves it. I just thought it would be cheaper than the chrome covers which seem a bit expensive for what they are.
