4 Wheel Drive Constantly flashing was created by Friese-Greene
Hi all,
Would someone be able to help me with my jimny.
It's a 2006 JLX and last night I was driving home and I accidentally hit 4 wheel drive and it started flashing so I stopped the car and tried to stop it flashing but could not. I tried disconnecting the battery and tried reversing but it has not done anything, now when I press either of the 2 wheel drive, 4 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive low buttons they do not work and nothing seems to happen. Not sure whether to drive it or not.
Many thanks

Are you pressing the clutch in whilst trying the changes?

When you put the car into 4WD there is a pulse of vacuum sent to the front hubs for 5 seconds. In the vacuum line that brings the car into 4WD there is a vacuum switch and if it does not measure the vacuum within that 5 seconds the switch sends a signal to the 4WD ECU.

The ECU locks out all actions on the 4WD system. Even leaving the battery off overnight will not reset the ecu. On my car it appears that the valve that opens to allow the vacuum through is intermitent and would cause the light to flash as it would not let the vacum into the apply 4WD vacuum line.

I hvae now disabled the switch and the vacuum line from the manifold and have the vacuum autohubs set to 4WD.

Therefore the car goes out and in off 4WD by only the transfer box going in and out of engagement.

The bill from Suxuki will eithr be an hours labour if a vacuum hose needs replaced up to many hundreds of pounds if the valve block needs replace.
