I have a Ring PowerPack for starting my Vit and my 2.5TD Mazda, it has a 32A/hr battery; that one is a replacement for my previous Ring Powerpack which 'only' had a 20A/hr battery. I have grave doubts about the capability of that little thing.

If it needs nice thick wires to the battery on the outside to take the current draw then surely somewhere inside that draw is the same but not through thick wires - so how is it coping?

I'm not saying it doesn't work as technology is getting really clever now but how?

We use one of these at work it's brilliant considering the size! Due to the fact the cars we deal with are meant to have an expensive gel battery a lot of them arent changed when dying meaning we usually have 3 or 4 cars that need jumping a day. Only issue was after getting dropped a few times it stopped charging (still lasted over a week though) took it apart and just need a joint resoldering and it's all good.

It says the output power at 12v is 2 amps. A small car battery output is about 60 amps and a starter motor will draw close to that. So unless the idea is that you leave it for a couple of hours to charge the car battery up, I can't see how it will ever work?

Just seen, further down the page it says 250 amps at 12v! Which is very impressive, but far higher than those jump leads would ever take, let alone any wiring within.

Also it can apparently start your car 20 times but only power the LED light for 40hrs (I have a single AAA powered headtorch that lasts that long) and can only charge a phone 10 times? That seems odd.

I can see it helping if your car battery is tired and just needs a bit more oomph on a cold morning, but that is a good sign that your car needs a new battery, which will cost about the same as this! When a car battery is flat (e.g. left the lights on) then there is no way this will help. They even say it only works above 20% charged.

So, unless like in Biasmechanic's example you have lots of cars with tired batteries you don't want to replace, I'm a bit sceptical of it's worth.
