Bosal back box was created by jim
I have been meaning to fit this and took a look at the old one on there at the moment and it must be the original, it has rust outside in as its peeling back like an onion.

The bosal one comes with a welded on corrugated plate for protect against the road kicking up dirt.

I hadn't seen thus before but have had bosal before and have always been satisfied.

Thats on top of the silencer :P

The standard Suzi silencer has one too, you just cant see it.

I looked at 2 different priced mid and back boxes side by side (a Bosal at about £90 all in with gaskets and something that was basically clearly made in the same place down to the position and colour of the labels but £70 ish)

The cheaper one had no cover, no coating (bare steel, no hot dip aluminiumising) it also had thinner hanging brackets with less substantial weld. The silencer was also notably lighter on the budget system.

Presumably, it stops mud and crap falling on the silencer and baking on - one of the engineers I work with reckons if you get organic matter (leaves, crap, grass etc) stuck to your bodywork, in your arches etc it gets very corrosive as it decomposes and completely trashes all nature of protective coatings. - sounds feasible.

I'm thinking it must simply act as a heat shield protecting the underside

edited my 1st post sorry. I looked at 2 silencers and mid systems.

Ohh... and you'll need a pair of M10 fine nuts (1.25mm pitch) standard M10's are no good. The studs are welded in from the blind side, so you can't simply cut them off and replace with standard size bolts

I bought a Walker Exhausts back box for mine and found it fitted with my tow bar still in place, which was handy as I had to cut the old back box up to get it out and the tow bar bolts have been on it since time began!

Thanks chaps. Does the backbox have to come off when fitting a tow trust tow bar? I didn't realise the bolts are welded on the back box.
