:(

Oh dear, I appear to have sprung a(nothed) leak! I just wondered if there was a common seal I should investigate first?

This poor little Jimnys having no end of trouble, I think it has been stood a while longer than perhaps the previous owner let on.

This is an old single over head can G13BB

Oil is now leaking from either the sump gasket, or behind the plastic cam belt cover, I fear the latter. The alternator and belt has just been changed (60miles ago) so I immediately suspected an overtightened belt had pulled the shaft and flexed the bearing and seal but both belts seem nicely tensioned with plenty of give in them.

The head gasket was done about 6000 miles ago, along with the cambelt and a relap and adjust of the valves etc. perhaps this belt was a bit tight and put strain on things. I assume under that cover I'll be greeted by a leaky crank seal,

Does anyone know if it's an easy change?

Poor Jimny......

Have you checked the oil filter? I have had one that was not tightened enough albeit on a GV1600 but basically identical to the Jimny. Now this should be hand tightened as tight as you can and then in service they get tighter. I have always needed a strap wrench to remove this canister type of filter. But this one was just nipped! Hence oil leak all over the lower half of the engine but no running leak. Just a thought.

Ok this could be the culprit then, by scored I assume you mean a worn ring and not accidental damage/scrape.

Is it easiest to drop the water, remove rad and maybe the grill and bumper and get a good view to work tidily, looks fairly tight to get down there.

Ok great, thanks. This doesn't sound to bad, I just hoping the shaft is ok and not rutted!

I was hoping to get my 1.5" lift kit which arrived from Bits4Vits attempted but it looks like it's on the back burner again! I got my off road tires fitted today so I'm really itching to get the old girl on the road now! (Or should I say, off the road!!)

Hello, I detected an oil leak in supporting the cam sensor

Specifically in the area indicated by the red circle

An appropriate sealant and a new oring solved the problem :)
