Changing Differential Oil was created by Dyl
I have not yet changed the differential oil on my Jimny so think it may be a good idea to do so.
As a complete novice to working on cars I just want to check the process.
It looks simple enough.
Do you just undo the bottom plug ensuring there is a drip tray below and empty it. Put the plug back in and undo the top plug to re-fill?
Then how do you ensure you get the right amount back in if this is the case?
Once I do this I will look to drop the oil on the transfer box, but one question at a time

Take out the top (fill) plug first because if this is seized or rounded off and you have drained the oil you are in trouble and when filling top up until it trickles out again and it will be correct if that makes sense!

Undo filler first, (just in case) then drain and refill till oil overflows from filler, all on a flat level surface

Also t box and gearbox same process but less space to work so a fluid transfer pump is a good investment

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

You will need a 10mm square drain plug key.
A 3/8 socket bar will fit but is slightly small, and tends to round off the hole, and help expand the plug and seize it in place.
The 10mm square keys are rather like rocking horse droppings, here is one on eBay at a reasonable price
