Bad clutch or just dirty was created by 2013gary
Hi, I'm having some clutch problems and I don't know if it's the clutch slipping or not.

When I change gear (from 3rd to 4th I've noticed) the revs stay the same for a few seconds once I've lifted the clutch pedal up. After a couple of seconds they drop down to where they should be again. This doesn't happen every time I change from 3rd to 4th, it happens about 3 times on a 20 mile journey on B roads.

I recently got stuck in mud, so I'm not sure if the clutch is dirty or whether I've worn it out/damaged it by trying to get our of the mud.

Any help would be appreciated. My Jim is a 2001 DOHC with 57k miles on the clock.

Sounds like your clutch is slipping, I've just been buggering about with mine. Mud does wear your clutch. You can try adjusting the clutch, slacken off the adjuster on the front of the gear box. See my post, folks have put good advice to a similar problem there.

It's an easy job to adjust, if I did it anyone can. If its only slipping a bit in 3rd to 4th you may well be able to extend the life adjusting it but it will get worse.

You can try that stall test, put the pedal in, box in 2nd, handbrake on, lift the pedal, if it doesn't stall, or takes a bit to stall it your clutch is gone.

Thanks for the advice. I'll have a go at adjusting it, but after reading your other posts I think I'll start saving for a new clutch
