where is the gearbox filler bolt was created by mark 88
hi all ive noticed a slight weep from my drain bolt so I thought id check how much was in. I can see something that maybe the filler just below the breather its a hexagonal bolt that looks like a 20mm socket would fit it.

It's up high, about half way up, drivers side. It's an [strike]11mm [/strike] 10mm square, like the diff. You can get away with a 3/8 ratchet though. You will need a giant oil syringe thing to fill it though.

I used my 3/8 ratchet and filled a oil can with its own finger pump that you use on lathes and the like to fill mine.

On the 8 Valve car the fill point is was on the offside of the gearbox.
On our 2007 car is is on the nearside of the gearbox and in both cases a pain to get at.
It is requires a 10mm square key to remove and I have rounded the socket on one of those plugs using a 3/8 square. Luckly on the front diff that was easy to get a chisel to fix it.
It is not worth the risk of saving some money and not buying a 10mm socket.
On the other hand cash now is always king to some people over the cost of getting things out whn you have rounded the socket.
As always it's your choice.
