no drive to front wheels was created by Gjmcleod
Hi guys , I have been out off roading this morning , 4WD was working fine , , then all of a sudden , no drive to the front wheels , no bangs or clunk s prior to the loss of drive .
- the front prop is spinning , as the rear wheels are spinning , but no drive
- anybody able to advise on the first things to check ?
- the car is trailer , not sure what hubs are on it , its just normally constant 4 wheel drive
Any advice would be much appreciated ?
Cheers

Hi , my light always flashes on the dash , it's only used off road , so the hubs are just locked in 4 wd , i just thought it was strange that both wheels have stopped driving , if one hub went , would both wheels not have drive ?
Thanks

If 1 hub fails you loose all drive to the front. Check these first before pulling the shafts out, then after those it could be a diff.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

All the drive goes to the side that is free to turn because of the differential.
Most likely reason is a CV joint has failed, although you might be lucky if you have vacuum hubs that are just fitted in the locked position and find that one has flipped back to free.
You have to dismantle the swivel housing to get the driveshaft out, sometimes you can tell which has failed because that wheel is easier to turn.
Start by checking the hubs, they have to come off to get the driveshafts out anyway.
