Probably not a novelty: Overheating was created by Alphabeast
Hello to you all,
I own a suzuki jimny 99'' fitted with the G13BB engine. A couple of month ago, the overheating urged me to do a radiator flush which proved effective. I just find it kinda weird that ''jim'' started overheating again so soon.
More specifically, the temp gauge never goes more than half way up...but as soon as it reached that point you better find a place to stop or ''jim'' finds it.... by merely stopping. 15 minutes of patience and the engine will start turning again, that's when the temp starts to fall really fast.

Any advice on the possible fault or a checklist to diagnose the prob. is kindly appreciated,
Thanks

Does the engine simply cut-out? Or does it seize, so it won't even turn over on the key? Regularly driving it until it siezes is not a good idea, but this doesn't sound like overheating to me.

It seizes and turning the key won't make it start, making a sound similar to a fuel flooded engine.

Seized means the engine won't even turn. If it sounds like a flooded engine then presumably the starter is still able to turn the engine over, so it isn't seized.

When it cuts out, does it judder a bit with the rev counter bouncing all over the place before it stops?

The standard 'cutting out when warm' problem on a Jimny is a faulty camshaft or crankshaft sensor, and the tell tale is the rev counter going crazy as it cuts out.

Curiously I have a similar problem, needle never gets above half way but as it gets towards half way starts to act like it has a cam sensor fault, g13b so no crank sensor, i replaced the cam sensor twice but still have the same problem. Though mine just looses power and miss fires rather than cutting out. So Id be interested if you manage to find the solution.

There is that 'test' to check the cam sensor, when it gets hot spray some water over the sensor, if it stops misfiring its the cam sensor.

My solution was to stick in an electric fan to keep it cool enough, seems to work for me. Had it in a couple of garages but not been able to find the bleeding prob.

No engin check lights on and can't trace with a code reader. If anyone could suggest a motor engineer who might be able to track it that would be grand. Though I can control the temp it niggles at me the problems still there.

Busta, well sorry for the confusion among terms. I went checking what a seized engine sounds like (
) and this definetely does not sound like my presumably non-overheating jimny. I confirm the judder along with rev counter crazy bouncing upon cut out.

Rex, I'll try and locate the cam sensor before my next trip so as to perform that test once.
