Induction kits... was created by dumb_dom
So I've been dooing a little research looking at cheap mods that could benifit me, and I've came across so many people saying an induction kit can give you +2/3 hp and mpg if your car is a high reving car...which my jimny is and with most of my mileage being motor way it's usually around the 3500 rev mark for a long time.

Basic I just wanted someone to back this information up and maybe some advice on makes and fitting or even if it's worth the hassle?

Most induction kits are just a cone type filter that replaces the stock airbox. The only real gain is the amount of noise it makes. Whilst people like to say they have gained power its nearly always placebo. Most induction kits just get heat soak and can sometimes reduce power by a few bhp. Personally I would say its not worth it on a jimny, at the end of the day Suzuki spent plenty of time/money developing the stock system, do you really think if it was that simple to get more power/economy they wouldn't of fitted one? Ive got an induction kit on my Mx5 which has a much revier engine then the Jim, is it more economical? Nope, any extra power? Nope, on hot days it feels slower then before, but it does sound awesome.

So basically if you want more induction noise get one. If your after more power/economy then no.

If its well positioned and free flowing then it will pick up a little extra power from having cold air at full throttle, a lot of the kits available just sit in the engine bay drawing in hot air which is no help at all. If you can drop the intake air temperature around 10C then you will gain around 3%.
You won't gain mpg because the air temperature is compensated for and the air fuel ratio is the mass of air/mass of fuel, the mass may be higher but the ECU adds more fuel and for a given speed you'll just use a tiny bit less throttle.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

It would be a complete waste of money and may lose you power rather than gain it as has been said and proven by Practical Performance Car magazine recently.

If it were to give you a power gain it will be only the odd 1 BHP. You'd notice more by giving it a good oil and filter change and a change of standard air filter.

Stick with standard! Especially if you off road it.

You need a closed forced air induction kit like a viper induction kit to see any gains,a come filter in the engine bay is only there to make it louder.
