I reused the original shim and not the new supplied shim and mine works perfect. The supplied shim is known to be too thick.
That was installed by myself and has covered 5000 road miles and still works perfect.

The reason why it does not make much sense what you're writing, is that the supplied washes go on the inside of the side gears. The Shims are used on outside. Also, the washer supplied with the kit is much much thicker than the shims. So can't really see how the shims replace the washers.

TomDK, there is a simple fitting guide with pictures somewhere out there on the internet that I followed a few years ago that I cannot find again :( I remember not using some new supplied shims/washers as they were too thick, this was in the instructions not to use the supplied shims when fitting to a jimny diff.
