Repairing a rear axle was created by gus2000
Hello.

To carry out a future project, I acquired a used axle with damages, that it required some attention and work.

I believe that time behind had suffered a typical failing of the back axles of the jimny that begins with a crack (picture of the www)

If not paid attention (appears like a filtration of oil), this crack spreads and it concludes in a catastrophic failing. (Picture of the www).

Later on, (it is always a presumption,) some “expert” it welded it with an inadequate method and the crack moved “besides the welding.”

Evaluated the situation, immediately we began to work with Diego and “we cut for the healthy thing.” We eliminate the welding in order to liberate to the axle of the inappropriate material.

The removed material was replaced by a tube that re-establishes the original axle gauge and it align the parts to weld.

Aligning everything perfectly and giving "press"

It is “ready to weld”

To be able to assure the correct one centred of the sleeves of the axle, we arm an empty differential carrier. Through of it we pass a solid steel rod, “perfectly” straight.

In the ends we put some washers, in order to evaluate visually deviations of the centre during the welding process.

The welding concluded.

In order to “to assure” a long useful life, we add some reinforcements, (axle truss)

The folded sheet

Giving forms them with the grinder

Welding ready

I list lack to paint…

Later on I comment them like it follows the project

Wow! That's not going to break.

On the 9th day he swapped it for a Jimny.

Looking really good Gus :)
Everything except the truss on the underside of the axle housing. Reduction in ground clearance isn't good :)

Crickey. That Jimny doesn't look like it's ever been off road either!

I'm glad I have a spare axle but wouldn't want to be in that situation!

Is it just fatigue that causes it do you think?
