I would suggest a 3" lift then extend the bump stops to prevent rubbing. By the high side of the suspension being on the bump stop it pushes the low side down into the ground with leverage giving more grip.
I question why so many people want such large tyres on a Jimny, especially given the known weak front axle components.
My personal recommendation for maximum tyre size is a 215/80/15 or at most a 235/75/15 and whilst being careful with not having a too aggressive tread pattern.
I know of some people on here who have run bigger without much of an issue, but I think they have a good amount of mechanical sympathy and are quite experienced.
I have blown a cv with aggressive 215/80/15's and would perhaps not choose such aggressive tyres again.
If you must go that big you need a rock lobster and ideally uprated cv's.
Just remember how small a Jimny diff is compared to a Land Rover. That's why you don't need such big tyres to achieve the same ground clearance.

think kirkynut has covered it but on mine
ive fitted an sj410 transfer box,im also running an m16a,i have mechanical sympathy and touch wood not broke anything yet.my tyres are aggressive but not as harsh as special tracks ect.
I got my 235's at a good price other wise i would have went 215 80 if buying new, with me fitting an 1" body lift and not changing to a 3" suspension lift it doesnt twist up as far and thw tyres go nowhere near the upper arch.was also a cheaper option.hope this helps

I'm going to try running 30s on 2" suspension lift and 1" body lift with some guard trimming.
I'm running an m18a so gearing is not as big an issue.

You make a fair point about having a bit more poke from the 1.8 on standard gearing and by keeping the standard gearing you won't be putting as much torque through the transmission as with a rock lobster. I wonder how much engine braking the 1.8 will provide.
The extra torque from the 1.8 might be enough to be a problem for the cv's and the transfer box chain. The chain is known to stretch.
It'll be interesting to see how you get on with it.

Gearing will still be a issue mate .yes the 1.8 will perform well once the revs are up but imagine your going up a steep hill at crawling pace in 1st gear your revs will be at 1000 rpm and when you put your foot hard down nothing will happen as you are out of the power curve for a petrol engine . You could hit every obstical in the power curve starting at 2500rpm but that will mean more speed and more chance of braking things . . I have a 1.6 16v in mine and was fine in big open spaces but in tight areas was a right pain . Just my 2 cence hope it helps

I've been talking to a mate in Aus, recently featured in a 4 page article in the Australia 4WD Action mag, so I like to think he knows his stuff and he sure seems to have the mechanical and technical background.
Hes done the 1.8L conversion and hasnt has any problems with 30" tyres, gearing or cvs.
Hes now going to 33" tyres and is now doing a t-box swap with reduction gears.
He reckons that up to 30" tyres is no problem for the 1.8L. Any bigger and you need reduction gears.
Similar to how we say about 28" tyres on a 1.3 before reduction gears necessary
I have a mate who says you're not a true 4by enthusiast til you break something. So I'll give the 30s a go and if something pops, I'll be sure to report back here with pics. If not, we'll all be the wiser
