Can Jimnys do 70 without overheating? was created by 1975andyt
I've just has the crankshaft sensor changed and the misfiring engine, flicking rev counter and immobiliser light flashing issues seem to have stopped, the problem with it overheating remains despite the thermostat being changed. The Jimny runs fine until I up the speed to 70 then the temp gauge rises, if I put the heaters on full and slow down the gauge goes to half way. Any ideas?

What condition is the radiator ? Sometimes rot at the bottom and the fins disappear so iit doesn't cool effectively , if it's been off road before sometimes blocked with mud. I've never had any problems overheating at 70.

The rad seems ok Gary, the Jimny appears to have had a very easy life before I bought it last Friday, the overheating is cheesing me off a little to be honest, it's a cracking piece of kit but a bit of a head dooer constantly watching the temp gauge!

I've just had another look at the radiator and can't quite believe how I could have missed its poor condition! You are correct Gary, the finns have gone at the bottom and the rest just crumble away under light pressure.......new rad required!

A healthy engine shouldn't overheat at high speeds. I've done 3-4hr motorway runs at 75-80 with no overheating.
