Stiff gear lever and difficulty changing gear was created by Phatphingers
Hi,
Just thought I might share a small fix I just did on my Jimny in case it helps anyone else. I have had my Jimny for about 8 weeks now during which time she has been SORNed while having a lockright, winch and few other bits added.
Anyway, took her out for a test drive on Sunday (taxed her from 1st June) mainly to test the Lockright but found that it was almost impossible to change gear, really stiff and a battle to select 1st or 5th. After checking for a few things like broken gearbox mounts, etc., I discovered the gear lever mount was moving more than the lever so pulled out the gear lever and found the grease around the bottom ball and socket was almost solid. After cleaning out as much as I could I still couldn't get much movement so decided on drastic action and poured about a cupful of oil into the remote housing, in my case it was some Fuchs Titan Stintofluid gearbox oil which is VERY light and fluid - expensive but worth every penny as it is expected to last over 100,000 miles in a VW gearbox. I began working it around using the gear lever in and out of the gears. I found it is easier to put the three bolts back in and move the lever in and out of the gears that way.
I honestly can't tell you how much crap came out, I used a fluid extractor (turkey baster!) to remove the dirty oil and repeated the process.... the change in movement is amazing, I can change gear with finger tip pressure on the gear knob and no more fighting to find a gear.
I have decided to leave the oil in the housing for the next few weeks to let it really get to work.
Hope that helps someone....
Sorry no pictures but the instructions for removing the gear lever are included in BigJimny's guide to changing the clutch.

Have the same problem. Tell me something, Can you fill when moving the stick that something is blocking the stick from going in ? Take out the gear stick housing assy, open it and in my case there was a cutted bolt inside that small box (on the shifter base).

Sorry not sure what you mean.
do you mean the slot (key way) on the gear lever/ the bolt from the housing is designed to keep the gear lever moving in the correct plane, the base of the gear lever is a ball which sits in a socket.
The whole of the inside of the remote housing was solid with old grease, cleaned it out and it has been fine all weekend.
