Heater not working, Help please ! was created by chrismac
2003 soft top Jimny
I have heater that is not working but all things check out ok. Probably I've missed something but am baffled what it could be.
I've drained the radiator and water with anti freeze was relatively clean, thermostat checked and works well, radiator cap maintains pressure, temperature plastic control arm on heater moves through full movement, I've flushed heater matrix with garden hose into the heater Inlet hose without disconnecting the outlet hose. Water runs clean from radiator drain plug.
There seems to be no bypass within the matrix so the water going in, must be going through the matrix, so that indicates it's not blocked. However, the water flow from the radiator drain plug does not seem to be affected whether the heater control is set at full heat or cold.
Today in relatively hot weather the heater produced hardly any heat despite engine being at full working temperature.
Any suggestions gratefully accepted.
Thanks
Chris

one silly thing to check. when I bought my jimny i also had no heat inside the car but everything seemed ok.

after much head scratching i learnt that a common problem is a linkage inside the car that operates the heater direction controls. By the drivers left foot there is a small white leaver that can easily become disconnected from its control rod.
without this connected no heat gets into the car. Reconnect them and hay presto. Well mine worked anyway and was so simple.
hope this works for you too

It won't be, as the temperature control blends hot air and cold air, the matrix stays hot all the time, the flaps inside direct some air through the matrix and some around it.

Does sound as though one of the air flaps isn't working.

Other possibilities are a big airlock in the heater (unlikely) or the thermostat is missing.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
