Ok so I'm hoping I haven't made an error but I've just been and bought a jimny it's a 2001 model and has the 4wd gear stick. Tbh I don't know much about this other than I heard you shouldn't use them whilst driving on normal roads. Anyway It went straight down into 4wd mode but I don't know what else I should be looking for as it didn't bleep or light up anywhere on the dash but happily stayed in the downwards 4wd position
Does this sound right?

Instructions for the different drive options and when to use them can be found on the drivers sun visor.
There are 3 positions (as indicated on the top of the gearstick)
1: 2wd high range (lever fully forward)
push lever backwards to
2: 4wd high range
push lever down and backwards to
3: 4wd low range
In the 2nd and 3rd positions a '4wd' light should illuminate on the dashboard. If there is no light, or the light flashes, there is a fault in the system and 4wd will not engage.

Hmm I genuinely did not notice a light Is it obvious or do you have to look for it? If it is broken is it much to fix? Got a feeling it won't, be just my luck

Will the car workplace without this working? I drove it and it felt lovely. How much will this cost to get sorted as it's the reason I bought a jimny to get me about in the bad winter weather. I only had a quick drive of it so maybe the 4wd does work I was just scared of potentially breaking it so tried it a couple of times whilst stood still
