front metal structure rotten? was created by jimnylee
Hi folks ,I'm wondering if anyone could help me? this is my first posting on the forum. I have just recently bought my first jimny a 2001 with just under 72k ,it seems like a nice clean example and has at some point had waxoyl applied underneath, today I was having a look under the bonnet and noticed that the metal frame in front of the radiator,if you follow the two spars down there is a cross channel were the top of the bumper anchors onto, I found the channel is basically split and heavily rotted it also contains part of the front light wiring loom,I'm wondering if this would be a structural fail for the mot? and is this cross section available to buy? as it all seems spot welded into place?? Any help appreciated cheers lee

Is it part of the chassis or the body? If the latter, it could be a fail assuming the tester spots it and considers it unsafe. If it's part of the bodywork then it's unlikely to fail as you can get away with an amazing amount of corrosion when there is a separate chassis.
It is almost certainly a weld-in job. As you've found, early chassis weren't galvanised.

Im sure any rust body or chassis within 12inch of a mount etc is a fail. Some moters will let things slide but by law they shouldn't but glad they do. there not stupid I had a bit near my rear body mount but woild do nothing to be unsafe in any way

Have later models got galvanised chassis then? If so when from?

Later models have galvanized bodies, not chassis. Zuki chassis don't seem to rust for some reason.
I think it was either 05 or 06 on that were galvanized but someone will know for sure.
OP, as Dave says, we need a piccie!
