new shocks don't fit 98 model was created by squarebore
Hi, I bought a set of standard shocks on ebay for my 98 Jimny and the rears don't fit. When fitting the rear shocks I discovered that both the metal and rubber bushes are too wide at the top and won't fit the mounting bracket. The bracket has a maximum space of 33mm. The OEM shock bushes are 32mm. The bushes supplied are 37mm.
I have asked the supplier but wondered if perhaps they may be for a later model. Any thoughts?
Cheers
Michael

This is common on a lot of after-market shocks (including the ones I sell)
You need to trim the bushes to size with a mini-hacksaw.

I had the same issue with some Rough Country shocks for my 2002 J. Sent them back (Jimny Bits) and replaced them with Trail Master ones that did fit.

its probably because the shocks arn't designed for the jimny so the bushes that procomp and rough country provide will be for the truck the shocks are actually for, whereas trailmaster's are for a jimny so have the right bushes.

just fitted some of the rough country 2-3" lift rear shocks on mine. they did have to be trimmed approx 3mm for the top mount .but easily and quickly done. the bottom bushes went straight in the rear shock relocators. and they work a treat
standard jimny - for now
