2006 Jimny unable to select 4wd low ratios was created by sfw1962
Hi there guys ,I am new to this lark so your patience would be appreciated!
My 2006 Jimny has just started giving this peculiar problem.
4wd Hi ratio works fine and selects and deselects perfectly through the vacuum operated hubs by pushing the dash button.
Problem starts when I attempt to select low ratio on 4wd by pushing the dash button...The beeper sounds in time with the 4wd L light flashing on the dashboard but it does not seem to be locking in as the light flashes and the beeper sounds constantly and when I attempt to drive off it either drives off in 4wd lo and then jumps to 4wd hi with the light and beeper still sounding or it emits a graunching noise and drives off in 4wd hi with the 4wd lo light and beeper still sounding.
Car has full ORA 3.5 inch lift kit,and has a wading kit fitted to all breathers.Clutch is new and gearbox and transfer box oils have been renewed when gearbox was rebuilt 6 months ago.
The transfer box has not been tampered with and I am suspecting a fault in the Motor or solenoid whatever it is that selects the low ratios................Cant source a workshop manual for the car and im scared to start ripping the motor off the transfer box in case it all goes "boing" and springs cogs and stuff fall out with no reference as to how to reset it all!
Also when attempting to select 4wd lo I depress clutch,am stationary with the wheels straight ahead.
Help please

Check the switch on the clutch. The car may think you haven't pressed if it's knackered or got wires off.

Will give that a look mate!.....Is it situated at the pedal cos I don't remember seeing any wires at the gearbox when I had it out.

Problem solved!...Two wires had snapped off the switch on the transfer box due to the pressed steel guard being bent rearwards on being grounded out and shearing off the wires.....new switch £40 odd quid and sorted!

i had the same problem about 1 year ago! And now i destoyed the other switch in transfer for the 4wd selection, the symptoms now are that the green light comes on, the 4wd (in transfre not the hubs) engaged and disengaged in 3 seconds again and light comes off.
To discriminate the two switches this for the low range selection is on the back of the transfer and this for the 4wd selection is on the front of the transfer.
